[Under Construction]

On July 12, 2019 the following devotion was on Refreshing Daily in Gods Word:

Bible Reading: Proverbs 4:14-27

Key Verse: Verse 23 – "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Key Words: Keep thy heart

You have probably heard of the Humanist Manifesto. It is the bible for propagating humanism around the world. It is a socialistic one-world “movement” promoted by a humanistic philosophy. Time and space do not allow us to print the manifesto but below is a brief summary of its contents.
  1. “We find insufficient evidence for belief in the existence of the supernatural. No deity shall save us, we must save ourselves.” (Atheism)
  2. “We regard the universe as self-existing and not created, the human species an emergence from natural evolutionary forces.” (Evolution)
  3. “Ethics is autonomous (not controlled by others): birth control, sexual preferences, lifestyle, all is based upon a person’s self-interest and needs.” (Amorality)
  4. “We have reached a turning point in human history. We believe in maximum individual autonomy, reject all religious and moral codes that suppress our individual freedom. We demand civil liberties, including the right to socialized medicine, a right to die with dignity (Euthanasia), and suicide (Socialism).”
According to Tim LaHaye in the book, The Battle for the Mind, the following organizations are “card-carrying humanists.”
  • ADA (Americans for Democratic Action)
  • AEU (American Ethical Union)
  • ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union)
  • SIECUS (Sex Information and Education Council of the United States)
  • NOW (National Organization of Women)
  • NEA (National Education Association)
  • The Ford Foundation
  • The Carnegie Foundation
  • UNWHO (United Nations World Health Organization)
  • UNICEF (United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund)
  • UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization)
These are just a few of the many organizations that promote the humanist agenda, along with Hollywood and much of the media.

We teach the kids the song, “Be careful, little ears, what you hear. Be careful, little eyes, what you see.” But I am afraid that today much of what they hear and see is humanistic. We must protect their ears and eyes, but most of all, their heart by teaching them moral righteousness and Biblical truth. Without parents being extremely vigilant, Proverbs 22:6 can and will never be fulfilled.

What to do:
✞ Be eternally vigilant in the training up of your children.

As usual I posted a link to the devotion on Gab. Below is a response and subsequent exchange I received from a humanist:

It should be obvious to all that this asshat OP has no idea whatsoever what Humanism is.
The OP IS, obviously, an asshat whose religion obviously gives him permission to lie and slander with abandon.
Jimbo, it's better to keep silent and let the world think you are an idiot, than to open your mouth and prove it.
There is no such thing as a "Humanist Manifesto". In fact, such a phrase is an oxymoron. Humanists have no "manifesto" ..
Good morning Anthony.
First, I am not the author of the devotion, but I repost it on behalf of my pastor.
I will be the first to admit I am not an expert on humanism. However, a quick search of the internet I found the following"
"Humanist Manifesto is the title of three manifestos laying out a Humanist worldview. They are the original Humanist Manifesto (1933, often referred to as Humanist Manifesto I), the Humanist Manifesto II (1973), and Humanism and Its Aspirations (2003, a.k.a. Humanist Manifesto III). The Manifesto originally arose from religious Humanism, though secular Humanists also signed..."

Hope you have a blessed day!

What you are doing is as disingenuous as if I were to use the rantings of Jim Jones to describe Christians. And you know that ..
"And you know it that..."
You overestimate my understanding of the subject. If everything from the American Humanist Association is incorrect. How do you view what Humanism is?

Humanism is not a belief. In fact, Humanism is the absence of belief processes as a means for understanding existence ..
Could you elaborate on that? Are you saying it is similar to Atheism, where you believe in no higher authority, or does it place self as the ultimate authority?
1
No we aren't athiests any more than we are theists.
The only ultimate authority AFAIK, is gravity. Gravity always has the last say .. 😜

What is that defines you as a humanist?
Great question, Jim. Sadly, I rarely get asked that.
What sets us apart from all other creatures is our disproportionate brain.
What defines me as a Humanist is my dedication to rigorous and constant use of that amazing organ. Like any other organ or muscle, the more it is used, the more powerful it becomes.
Gene Roddenberry, the creator of the "Star Trek" scifi series, was a Humanist. In that series he created a fictional planet called "Vulcan" that was a disguised analog for Humanism.
Naturally he gave them pointed ears, and an emotion phobia to enhance drama, but the overall concept was fairly accurate.
Understand, Jim, that this is not a "life choice" on my part. It is simply how my particular brain works. Like so many, I have never been very capable of "belief".
In my mind, the capacity in humans to "believe" vs "know" works kind of like a left/right stereo slider. Everyone has their own setting for this slider. That is why in religious circles, some seem more dedicated and enthusiastic than others, and others never go to church unless at wedding or funerals.
Also, because of this slider, "believers" have just as valid a right to their views as do "knowists" (I know, not a word ..) Whatever works for the individual ..

Thank you Anthony for that explanation. Your position is becoming more clear to me. I had actually thought of Spock as you described humanism earlier.
The thing that was described in today's devotion and on the websites linked earlier does exist. It seems to me there are two (maybe more) camps that exist under the same umbrella of Humanism. Similar to many religions that call themselves Christian - many of which I would classify as cults. In the circles that I run in what was described today and listed on the humanism website is what I and those around me see as humanism. I guess it can be summed up as, "We (mankind) are our own god." I feel your pain having to share a label with a group that doesn't match your values.
I get what you are saying as being wired that way. My journey to Christ was a long bumpy one that I fought. I wanted so much to be an atheist so I didn't have to be accountable. I was pulled toward Christ. Like many before me, I set out to disprove God so I could live peaceably as an atheist, but the more i studied the more I realized that the complexity of the universe and our own bodies could not have happened by chance. Once I conceded that we were created, the question then became which God. Once again I took an analytical approach, and determined it had to be Jesus.
Here is some of the prophecy based evidence that I found to be compelling.
Thank you Anthony for patiently answering my questions. I always love to learn something new. I can't say my pastor won't use the term humanism as applied to you umbrella mate at some point in the future.
In Christ alone!
