"His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;" - Revelation 1:14

From Omega Frequency: Special Episode: Revelations Chapter One…Verse by Verse (57:29):

The first thing we need to understand in the next couple of verses is that John is speaking symbolically when he is describing Jesus. We see his hair is like wool, not wool itself. His eyes were as a flame of fire, not actual fire instead of regular pupils. These things are allegorical.

Something we need to understand when we study the book of revelation is that somethings will be literal and somethings will be symbolic, but the symbols will always be symbolic of something literal. For example, John may see a lamb symbolically but that lamb is actually Jesus. Whereas he might see an earthquake that would be an actual earthquake.

There are some denominations that teach that all the book of Revelation is symbolic. However, if that were the case you could make it say whatever your denomination wanted it to say. We need to let the Bible interpret itself. It will either tell you what it means plainly or the symbolism will be explained in the next few verses or in other parts of the Bible, as we will soon see.

The first thing John describes about Jesus is that His hair was white like wool. White hair in the Bible always means wisdom and righteousness. Proverbs 16:31 says, "The hoary head is a crown of glory, if it be found in the way of righteousness."

Just as white hair covers your head, righteous wisdom covers your mind. Nothing that happens in the mind of God is an accident. There is always a reason. There is always a purpose. There is always a plan. Even though we may not always understand the reason, we can trust it.

Jeremiah 29:11 says this, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end."

He has a plan for your life and a plan for your future. However, we have freewill and that plan will not just happen out of thin air.

Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established."

That is why we must use wisdom in our pursuit to live righteously because His plan may not always be apparent to us.

Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us, "[8] For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. [9] For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."

Thankfully we can have the mind of Jesus by reading and applying the word of God to each of our situations. I once had someone tell me that if Jesus would sit across from me and I could ask him directly what to do, it would solve all my problems. But what if Jesus did show up? What would the living Word of God say to you?

He would say James 2:1 says this or Psalms 5:2 says that. Because when you study the Word you gain what the Bible calls the mind of Christ. The questions isn't what does it say, it is do you dare to believe it?

Next it says his eyes are as a flame of fire. Have you ever heard the eyes are the window of the soul? If you were to look inside of Jesus' eyes what would you see?

Deuteronomy 4:24 says, "For the Lord thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God."

There are two types of Biblical jealousy. One is a sin when you covet and desire what someone else has. The other is a type of jealousy that a husband has for his bride.

Here is an example, it is wrong to covet your neighbors wife, but it right to be jealous and protective of your wife if your neighbor is trying to seduce her. God is jealous when the devil tries to seduce us. He is like a husband that loves us and wants us to return that love back to Him.

Look into his eyes. See how they burn with passion for you. he has eyes for only you, but do you have eyes for only Him?

In Christ Alone!
